Reggae singer Anthony B. was born Keith Blair in Clarks Town, Jamaica; During his youth, his favourite singers were reggae legends Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, musicians who strongly influenced his own style. Peter Tosh’s influence can definitely be heard in Anthony B’s vocal delivery and revolutionary stance.
After performing with church and school choirs throughout his youth, he made his debut as a DJ (sing jay) with the local sound system Shaggy Hi-Power. In 1988, he linked up with Determine, Mega Banton, and Ricky General, issuing his debut record The Living Is Hard in 1993. With producer Richard “Bello” Bell, Anthony B. notched a series of hits including “Repentance Time,” “Fire pon Rome,” “Rumour,” and “Raid di Barn” before releasing his first full-length effort Real Revolutionary in 1996. Universal Struggle followed in 1997, with the single “Nah Vote Again” viewed as a key factor in preserving peace at the national elections later that year. In 1999, Anthony B. returned with Seven Seals. More Love followed two years later.
In July 2013 he released Tribute to Legends, an album of cover versions of songs by artists such as Bob Marley, The Maytals, John Lennon, Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, and Ini kamoze Speaking of the album, he stated “I chose to make a tribute album to firstly show how much these legends influence my music and my life.”
